One in five people who voted in the federal election voted for the AfD. For the president of the Jewish Student Union of Germany, Hanna Veiler, this "crossed a red line". She will therefore leave Germany.
The Jewish activist Hanna Veiler wants to move away from Germany and justifies this with the high share of votes that the AfD received in the election. "For me, a red line has been crossed with this federal election and my decision is final: I will leave Germany," the president of the Jewish Student Union Germany told the "Jüdische Allgemeine".
One in five "knowingly gave their vote to a party that is largely right-wing extremist". She is worried about her parents and her grandmother, who could be deported. She has not yet decided where she wants to move to. Her main concern is to "get some distance from Germany".
Veiler was born in Belarus, but grew up in Germany from childhood. Recently, she has repeatedly criticized pro-Palestinian protests at German universities. However, for professional reasons, she is considering Belgium, among other places, as she said, "even though anti-Semitism is even worse there than here."
