Berlin: Man dies after being punched by 16-year-old – indictment

At a subway station in Reinickendorf, a teenager punches a man in the face. The man falls and injures himself so badly that he dies two weeks later
The Berlin public prosecutor's office has filed charges against a 16-year-old youth who is said to have punched a 42-year-old in the face so hard that he fell and later succumbed to his injuries.
On the evening of January 6th last year, the 16-year-old was reportedly on the platform of the Kurt-Schumacher-Platz subway station in Reinickendorf with two other young people. There, the intoxicated 42-year-old is said to have gotten into an argument with the group.
The 16-year-old then allegedly hit the man hard in the jaw with his right fist. This caused the 42-year-old to fall and hit his head on the edge of the platform. The blow and the impact caused the 42-year-old to suffer a serious head injury and severe brain damage as a result of a lack of oxygen. In hospital, he also developed respiratory and pneumonia. He eventually died as a result of the brain damage and the lack of oxygen associated with the inflammation on January 20.
The youths returned to the scene of the crime on the same evening that the incident took place and identified themselves to police officers as participants in the altercation. The incident was recorded by video surveillance at the subway station. The accused essentially admitted the external events to the Berlin police. He has now been charged with bodily harm resulting in death.
