Costs at Halle explode - More expensive than Allianz Arena! Hoeneß on Bayern project: "Costs got out of control"

In an interview with "Kicker", Uli Hoeneß reported on major miscalculations during the construction of the SAP Garden in Munich. According to him, the project was almost three times as expensive as planned.
In September 2024, the newly built multi-purpose hall in Munich's Olympic Park, the SAP Garden, was officially inaugurated. The hall, with around 11,000 seats, has since been the home stadium of the EHC Red Bull Munich ice hockey club and the FC Bayern basketball team. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß also had a hand in the construction of the sports facility and is now reporting on juicy details.
In an interview with "Kicker", the 73-year-old revealed that the construction costs of the SAP Garden almost tripled compared to the original plan. "We originally expected 120 million euros, but in the end it was 320," said Hoeneß, drawing an interesting comparison: "The pure construction costs for the Allianz Arena were 285 million euros."
The long-time Bayern official is nevertheless proud of the multi-purpose hall. It is a real "gem," said Hoeneß, even if "the costs have gotten out of hand."
The exploding prices were mainly due to the “construction crisis” and “now the raw material problem”.
Hoeneß, who has repeatedly publicly supported FC Bayern's basketball team, played a key role in the construction of the SAP Garden, which he cited as an example of FC Bayern's development into a world-class club.
In addition to Hoeneß, Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who died in 2022, was also considered an important driver of the project.
"I do believe that I have given a lot of impetus, in the team area, but above all in the economic area. I was a key factor in the construction of the Allianz Arena, a little less in the youth performance center, but now more in the SAP Garden," reported Hoeneß. He was "proud to be part of this development."
