Friedrich Merz with Olaf Scholz in the Chancellery: Talks on the coalition

Two days after winning the federal election, Union Chancellor candidate Merz is consulting with Chancellor Scholz about how to proceed in the transition phase.
After the federal election , the CDU/CSU and SPD have begun initial talks with a view to forming a government. Election winner and CDU/CSU candidate for chancellor Friedrich Merz met with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) in the Chancellery this morning.
The Union parliamentary group leader arrived at government headquarters at around 10:30 a.m. The discussion is likely to focus on the design of the transition phase between the federal election on Sunday and the formation of a new government.
The CDU chairman had already announced a meeting with SPD leader Lars Klingbeil for yesterday, Monday. In the morning, the leaders of the CDU and CSU met to discuss how to proceed. At the CDU headquarters, Merz coordinated with CSU leader Markus Söder, general secretaries Carsten Linnemann (CDU) and Martin Huber (CSU), as well as CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt and the parliamentary manager of the Union faction, Thorsten Frei (CDU).
