Health | Economic Medicine: Wait and see or bill?

Health | Economic Medicine: Wait and see or bill?
How often is an x-ray like this medically justified?

"Definitely get it checked out!" This advice is often given by medical laypeople. General practitioners and specialists also proceed in this way: blood tests here, an MRI there. Alternatively, they might say, "Just wait and see. It'll go away on its own." But honestly, how often have you heard that? Because the volume of tests (which are easy to bill for) , including those involving heavy-duty technology, increases with age and the patient population grows, costs are spiraling out of control. The idea was to counteract this and bring some calm to the system through a primary care physician system .

According to the Bertelsmann Foundation, it might already be too late. Because the assessors also want to retire. Those who are supposed to be guides (and often already are) also want less bureaucracy. 5,000 general practitioner positions in Germany are already vacant, and many doctors want to reduce their weekly working hours. Instead of luring them with more money, perhaps we should give them back their medicine. It can wait and see.
