Three people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon on Sunday, according to Lebanese authorities. The Israeli army said it had killed two members of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah group in the south and east of the country. Despite the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in place since November, this brings the total number of people killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon since Thursday.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that one person was killed in an Israeli attack on a car in southern Nakura. Shortly thereafter, it reported another death in an attack in the northeastern Baalbek region. Later in the day, the ministry announced that a Syrian was killed in another attack in the Baalbek region.

In Israel, the army announced that it had "eliminated the terrorist Ali Hussein Al-Mussawi, an arms dealer and smuggler for the terrorist organization Hezbollah, in the Bekaa region." It also announced "an attack on the terrorist Abed Mahmud Al-Sayed a Nakura," whom it accused of "participating in Hezbollah's attempts to restore its military capabilities in the region."

UNIFIL: Shelling towards UN peacekeepers

Meanwhile, the UN mission stationed in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that an Israeli drone approached one of its patrols and dropped a grenade. Moments later, an Israeli tank "fired in the direction of the peacekeepers," it added. The UN mission did not provide any casualties. It added that the actions of the Israeli troops constituted a "violation of Lebanese sovereignty."

A ceasefire has been in place between Israel and Hezbollah since November of last year. Both sides accuse each other of violating it. Recently, the Israeli army has intensified its attacks in Lebanon. According to the Israeli army, the attacks are always targeting members and positions of the pro-Iranian militia.

Hezbollah, whose stated goal is the destruction of Israel, opened a second front against Israel with regular rocket attacks from Lebanon immediately after the start of the Gaza War in October 2023. The Israeli army responded with massive air strikes on targets in Lebanon and later with a ground offensive.
