Markus Lanz confronts Carsten Linnemann about photo of men's group

A photo of a meeting of top CDU and CSU politicians - where only men were present - is causing criticism on social media. Linnemann calls it a "completely normal meeting".
A photo of CDU and CSU top politicians has sparked criticism on social media . On Wednesday, the politicians - including chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz and Markus Söder - came together to discuss possible coalition negotiations with the SPD.
In addition to Söder and Merz, General Secretary Carsten Linnemann (CDU) and Martin Huber (CSU), as well as CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt and the parliamentary manager of the Union faction, Thorsten Frei (CDU), were also at the CDU party headquarters. Several people criticized the fact that only men were seen in the photo.

Markus Lanz asked Linnemann, who was a guest on the show on Wednesday, directly about this: "Which female ministers did this group of men come up with for the new cabinet?" Lanz asked, emphasizing the word "female ministers". Linnemann defended himself: "It was a completely normal meeting."
Lanz: “Do you think it’s a shame that there is no woman sitting there?”But those are only men, Lanz asked. "Those are the roles, of course, but we will have mixed teams in the coalition negotiations," promised Linnemann. "Do you think it's a shame that there are no women there?" asked Lanz again. Those are the roles, Linnemann defended himself again. "But women should have roles too," said Lanz. Linnemann agreed, which is why we need more women in leadership positions in politics.
The photo of the meeting, which was shared on X by Markus Söder and others, attracted some critical comments. Moderator Anne Will also shared the picture and wrote: "I don't understand the fuss. Women are included." More malicious comments followed: "Absolutely, they set the table neatly," wrote one user. "That's right, they're all lying under the table laughing, another." There was also criticism of the fact that 50 percent of the group was made up of CSU members. "No Eastern politicians, no women, Bavaria is overrepresented," said one user.
