Pope Francis spent a quiet night and is resting. The Vatican announced this on Wednesday morning. The health of the Pope, who has been in the Roman "Agostino Gemelli" polyclinic since February 14, remains critical but stable, the Vatican announced on Tuesday evening. There was no acute shortness of breath, as was the case last week, and his blood values remain stable.
The Pope underwent a CT scan of his lungs on Tuesday. He received the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and substitute Edgar Peña Parra. Francis also convened a consistory for the canonization of two blesseds.
On Tuesday evening, believers gathered for the second evening in a row in St. Peter's Square to pray the rosary, which was led by the Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle. Starting on Monday, the Vatican had called on believers to pray the rosary for Francis in St. Peter's Square every day. "Let us pray for the health of the Holy Father Francis. May he feel the loving presence of the Lord and the solidarity of the Christian community," said Tagle, Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, at the beginning of the rosary, which was attended by many believers despite the cold, wet weather. Prayers were also said for the Argentinian Pope in Buenos Aires.
