Second place for VW - Golf is left behind again: This car leads the new registrations in Europe

The VW Golf has been left behind: once again, another car model holds the top position in terms of new registrations.
The Dacia Sandero continues to top the list of best-selling cars in Europe in the first month of 2025. With 22,078 units sold, the model secures the top position, while the VW Golf comes in second with 17,354 sales. However, both models record a decline compared to the previous year.
Most recently, new registrations of the Dacia Sandero fell by 11.6 percent in January 2025 compared to the previous year. The VW Golf experienced a decline of 6.2 percent. Nevertheless, the Sandero remains ahead of the Golf with a clear lead of over 4,700 units. The Peugeot 208 came in just third with 17,320 new registrations.
The VW Tiguan in particular is one of the winners: the car model's sales figures rose by 29.4 percent to 17,142 units. But the Peugeot 3008 also recorded considerable growth of 36 percent, reaching 11,488 new registrations. Other car brands with strong growth are the VW T-Cross (plus 42 percent), the Skoda Kodiaq (plus 39.4 percent) and the Mercedes-Benz GLC (plus 33.2 percent). The Dacia Duster was able to increase its new registrations by 18.6 percent.
The situation looked precarious for Tesla: The Model Y, which was Europe's bestseller in 2023, recorded a decline of 48.8 percent and only had 6,066 new registrations. The model almost fell out of the top 50 in Europe. Important: The data is preliminary and covers around 98 percent of new registrations within the European Union, the EFTA markets and Great Britain.
