Heavy travel traffic and long traffic jams are expected on Saturday. Motorways and main routes in the Alpine regions are particularly affected.
With the start of the one-week winter holidays in Bavaria, which affect around 1.7 million schoolchildren, as well as in parts of Slovakia, and the simultaneous end of the holidays in the German federal states of Saarland and Saxony, most of the Netherlands and parts of the Czech and Slovak Republics, the ARBÖ is expecting intensive travel traffic next weekend. In addition to the flow of holidaymakers, numerous day and weekend skiers are also causing additional traffic.
The main travel day is expected to be Saturday, with traffic jams expected from the early morning hours, which could last until late afternoon. According to ARBÖ traffic experts, the following routes are particularly affected:
· Ennstalstraße (B320), in the area of Liezen, Schladming and Gröbming
· Tauern Autobahn (A10), between Pongau and Kuchl junctions, especially in the construction site area between Golling and Pass Lueg with presumably block handling
· Inntal Autobahn (A12), before the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border crossing and the Imst/Pitztal, Ötztal and Wiesing/Zillertal on- and off-ramps
· Brenner motorway (A13), before the Schönberg toll station and between Matrei and the Brenner Pass, especially before the construction site in the area of the Lueg bridge
· Fernpass road (B179), along its entire length, with block clearance before the Vils/Füssen border tunnel and the Lermoos tunnel
· Zillertalstraße (B169), along its entire length, especially before the Brettfalltunnel, where block handling is carried out in case of high traffic volumes
· Ötztalstraße (B186), between Haiming and Sölden, especially in the village through roads
· Rheintal Autobahn (A14), before the Bludenz-Montafon exit
In addition to the traffic jams on the main traffic routes, travelers must also expect longer waiting times at the border when entering Austria. Increased controls and high traffic volumes can lead to delays, particularly at the motorway border crossings with Bavaria, such as at Walserberg on the Westautobahn (A1), in Suben on the Innkreisautobahn (A8) and the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border crossing mentioned above on the Inntalautobahn (A12).
ARBÖ traffic expert Thomas Haider recommends: "To avoid unnecessary delays, travelers should use the current traffic information from ARBÖ, which is available on the ORF teletext on page 431, online at https://www.arboe.at/infos/verkehrsinformationen and by calling +43/50 123 123, as well as via the ARBÖ app."
