Three dead due to strong waves in Tenerife

Three people have died in accidents caused by high waves on the Spanish holiday island of Tenerife. According to rescue workers, the incidents occurred on Saturday at three different locations. In El Cabezo in the south of the island, rescuers pulled a man from the water, who was pronounced dead on land. In the northern town of La Guancha, a man was rescued from the sea by helicopter and also pronounced dead on land.
In the northern city of Puerto de la Cruz, ten people who had been swept into the sea by a wave were rescued by police and passersby. One woman in the group suffered cardiac arrest and could not be revived. Three other people from the group were seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The remaining survivors sustained minor injuries.
A severe weather warning was in effect for coastal areas in the Canary Islands. Authorities urged people to avoid coastal paths and beaches.
