Taylor Lautner Defends Selena Gomez From Body-Shamers

Taylor Lautner isn't letting anyone tell Selena Gomez she's not perfect.
The Twilight star defended the Only Murders in the Building actress from trolls, re-posting a side-by-side photo of Selena, one at the 2024 SAG Awards and one at the same awards show in 2025. The post—shared to his Instagram Story Feb. 26—also included mean comments, including, "Oh she big big" on the 2024 photo and "She looked better thicc" on the 2025 photo.
"It's a cruel world full of hate out there,” Taylor wrote on top of the image. “You can never please everyone nor should you have to. In my experience it doesn't make the words sting less, it just refocuses you onto what matters. And it sure isn't the shape, color, or appearance of your body. Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out... and to be a little nicer."
The actor—who has also been open about how body shamers affected him after he played ripped werewolf Jacob Black—topped off his post by adding Selena's own song "Who Says.” The 2011 pop anthem shares an empowering message, full of lyrics like, "I'm no beauty queen, I'm just beautiful me," and "Who says, who says you're not perfect?"
And Taylor—who dated Selena’s BFF Taylor Swift in 2009—isn’t the only one who has her back. Others have also recently spoken out against hateful comments about Selena, 32, who has been open about how her lupus diagnosis affects her weight. On the Feb. 25 episode of The View, Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg defended Selena after she was the subject of a recent Glamour op-ed titled "It’s Okay to Feel Hurt When Celebrities Lose Weight—but Let’s Unpack It."
The article, published Feb. 25, discussed Selena's "visibly slimmer" appearance at the 2025 SAG awards and the public reaction. Whoopi and Sunny questioned the message of the article, with Sunny adding, "You don't know what's going on in that person's life."
After all, Selena has publicly shared her lupus battle since 2015, undergoing a kidney transplant in 2017. The Wizards of Waverly Place star has also acknowledged the criticism she’s received over the weight fluctuation her condition causes.
"I really noticed when people started attacking me for that," she shared in a 2019 episode of Giving Back Generation. "That got to me big time."
