Last-minute holidays 2025: The cheapest destinations for families during the summer holidays
Anyone looking to spontaneously book a holiday home for a family vacation during the summer holidays can still find great deals. According to a recent survey, a large proportion of hosts even expect an increase in last-minute bookings in summer 2025. Their most important target group: families with children.
According to Holidu , families are a top priority for 71 percent of landlords in France, Italy (64 percent), and Spain (54 percent). In Germany, half of hosts favor families with children. They are also happy to accommodate individual requests, from express delivery of a forgotten teddy bear to offline vacations at the parents' request.
Here is an overview of where you can still find affordable holiday accommodation for two to eight people in July.

With an average of €151 per night for vacation rentals, Germany is a particularly affordable vacation destination. Even in popular destinations like Schleswig-Holstein and Bavaria, some accommodations are available at bargain prices: In Dithmarschen, vacation apartments and vacation homes on Holidu cost around €135, and in the Bavarian Forest, €110. Families can vacation in the Lüneburg Heath for €123 per night.
Overnight stays abroad are particularly affordable in Poland and France. Average prices in Poland are €139 and in France €149, with Brittany being one of the regions with more moderate prices at €118.
In Italy and Spain, average prices are slightly higher at €180 and €188, respectively. However, travelers in the following regions pay slightly less despite high demand:
- Italy : Lecce on the Salento peninsula (162 euros), Brindisi on the Adriatic (189 euros) and Trapani in Sicily (155 euros).
- Spain : Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands (129 euros), Valencia (199 euros), Cadiz (204 euros), and Girona (219 euros). By comparison, the average price for a holiday rental in Mallorca in July is 371 euros per night.
Prices are based on the period from June 15th to September 15th during the 2025 summer season. A table shows that holiday home prices are comparatively high in July, but somewhat lower in August. If you're still able to take a summer vacation as a family in September, you'll find the cheapest deals this month. Here you can book a holiday home or apartment in September for under €150 per night:
- Denmark: 96 euros
- Sweden: 105 euros
- Poland: 109 euros
- France: 118 euros
- Croatia: 120 euros
- Germany: 135 euros
- Italy: 148 euros

The holiday home search engine Hometogo has also identified the cheapest regions for a summer holiday home vacation. With an average price of €128 in July, southern Sweden ranks first. Followed by Bavaria at €132, Normandy in France at €140, and the German North Sea at €144.
