Toll in New York to be abolished again

Anyone traveling by car in New York and wanting to go to Manhattan south of Central Park has had to pay a fee since January 5th. Nine dollars per day is due. The city administration wants to use this to counteract traffic jams and congested streets. This should not only reduce traffic, but also air pollution.
The controversial toll is now to be abolished again, at least according to the will of US President Donald Trump. "The toll is dead. Manhattan and all of New York is saved," wrote Trump on his social media platform Truth Social. US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy also described the fee as a "slap in the face of the American working class and small business owners." The approval granted for the city toll will be revoked.
But it will probably not be quite that easy, because the governor of the state of New York, Kathy Hochul, wants to keep the fee and has announced legal action against its abolition; the New York City Transit Authority also wants to sue against it.
Criticism of the toll came primarily from the neighboring state of New Jersey, because many people from there commute to work in Manhattan by car.
During rush hour, the toll for cars and small commercial vehicles is nine dollars (about 8.50 euros), and rental cars are also subject to this fee. At night, the fee is reduced to 2.75 dollars. Motorcyclists pay 4.50 dollars during the day and 1.05 dollars at night.
Small trucks and buses have to pay $14.40, while large trucks and coaches have to pay $21.60. At night, the fee is reduced to $3.60 and $5.40 respectively. However, these vehicles are exempt from the toll if they have the appropriate authorization.
Even taxis are affected by the city toll: passengers have to pay $0.75 per trip, regardless of the time of day. For larger vehicles, the charge is $1.50. However, this only applies to yellow taxis and boro taxis.
New York is the first city in the USA to introduce a city toll. The toll was originally supposed to be introduced in the summer and cost 15 dollars.
