Too popular: Lufthansa City Airlines abandons Munich-Hamburg route

Lufthansa City Airlines has been flying from Munich to Hamburg for barely a year. Now, as the Hamburger Abendblatt reports, it's over. The reasons for this are rather positive for the Lufthansa Group.
The final stop is scheduled for October 24, when Munich-based Lufthansa City Airlines will fly to Hamburg for the last time. The reason for this decision is easily explained: Demand on this route was too high for the fledgling City Airlines. It was only founded as a regional airline in 2023, partly to circumvent fare regulations. It flew from the south to the north of Germany with two smaller Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft with a maximum of 156 seats.
However, the lucrative route will not be discontinued; instead, Lufthansa itself plans to use larger Airbus A321 jets (over 180 seats), while City Airlines will continue to operate routes for smaller flight models as a regional airline.
