50 years after Queen Isabel's visit to Tizimín, they share their history with new generations

TIZIMÍN.— A few days before the 50th anniversary of the visit of Queen Elizabeth II of England, the historian from Tizimil, Luis Pérez Salazar , and the former director of CBTA 14 , Noé Peniche Patrón , offered a talk to enrich the students' knowledge on this topic.
The school auditorium was packed with students who listened to the speakers' talks as they shared anecdotes about this historic event that took place on February 28, 1975.
Both shared part of what happened during this visit, highlighting His Majesty's gesture of humility when he refused the only umbrella available at that moment, in order to show solidarity with those present. In addition, he used a convertible car to make a tour and greet the people who came out to see him pass through the streets of Tizimín.
Peniche Patrón recalled that the then governor Carlos Loret de Mola insisted that the queen not go to Tizimín, but to Mérida.
However, the President of Mexico, Luis Echeverría Álvarez, agreed with Queen Elizabeth II to include a livestock production area in her itinerary and CBTA 14 of Tizimín met all the requirements to consolidate this agreement.
Pérez Salazar and Peniche Patrón spoke about the conditions of the school facilities that year and the changes that had taken place to meet the educational competitiveness.
As you may recall, during that same visit the Queen was at the “La Reina” zoo , which has also undergone modifications to meet the requirements that the authorities demand for the well-being of wild species.
To commemorate the visit, municipal authorities will hold a festival next Friday.— Isauro Chi Díaz
