A photographic journey to rediscover (and protect) the beauty of planet Earth

A photographic journey to rediscover (and protect) the beauty of planet Earth

“Through art, we can remind ourselves of all that is still beautiful and worth protecting,” says Cristina Mittermeier. Her words accompany the images she captures with her camera. Cristina is a photographer and conservationist, and together with her husband, Paul Nicklen, also a conservation photographer, they have turned their work into a kind of loudspeaker for the planet. Their photographs are silent cries that invite us to react to climate change.

During Climate Week in New York, their collaborative work Hope and Reverence: Cristina Mittermeier and Paul Nicklen is being presented for the first time at the C. Parker Gallery in Manhattan. “Hope and Reverence are, at their core, a celebration of the natural world,” Cristina explains.

This exhibition is an invitation to stop, to feel and to see the planet with new eyes.” Paul Nicklen

“This exhibition is an invitation to pause, to feel, and to see the planet through new eyes.” Paul adds: “Our work has always been about connecting people with the beauty and fragility of the natural world. And there's no better time to spark that conversation than now.”

The exhibition will be open from September 15 to 28 and features more than 40 works, several of them never before seen. Among the new exhibits are pieces captured on his most recent expedition to Africa.

The truth is, their photographs have something hypnotic about them. Not only because of their technical perfection, but because they transport us to remote places where tribes and animals still live in freedom. When you look at them, you feel like you're part of something much bigger. Cristina and Paul's work has toured galleries and museums on five continents, and this exhibition is another opportunity to be touched by their message.
