Heat wave in Mexico in May 2025: These will be the most affected states
The May 2025 heat wave in Mexico has already begun to cause its first negative effects in a large part of the country; these are the states that will be most affected.
A heat wave is a period of excessive temperature, usually accompanied by humidity, that lasts for more than three consecutive days.
Due to deforestation and pollution, heat waves are more common in urban areas, with temperatures that can exceed 50 degrees.
Starting this first and second week of May 2025, a heat wave will prevail in Mexico , which will cause high temperatures throughout the country.
However, 25 of Mexico's 32 states will be the hardest hit, with temperatures ranging from 40 to 45 degrees Celsius from today through Sunday, May 11:

Although Mexico City is not among the states most affected by the May 2025 heat wave in Mexico , it will also feel its effects.
The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) announced that a yellow alert has been activated for Thursday, May 8, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., due to temperatures ranging from 30 to 32 degrees.
The 11 municipalities affected by the heat in Mexico City will be:

People are advised to use sunscreen, stay in cool places, wear light-colored clothing, wear a hat and sunglasses, and drink water throughout the day.

- Maximum temperatures 40 to 45 °C: Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tamaulipas (south), San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato (northeast), Querétaro (north), Hidalgo (north), Morelos, Puebla (north and southwest), Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán
- Maximum temperatures 35 to 40 °C: Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Zacatecas, Durango, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Aguascalientes, State of Mexico (southwest) and Quintana Roo
- Maximum temperatures 30 to 35 °C: Mexico City and Tlaxcala
