Hope in the Vatican: Pope Francis begins to show signs of recovery in hospital

The Vatican announced on Tuesday morning that Pope Francis had "rested well all night" and that his health was showing a "slight improvement." The 88-year-old pontiff has been hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli Hospital for 12 days due to bilateral pneumonia.
In the latest medical report issued by the Vatican Press Office, it was stated that the recently detected kidney failure "is not worrying" and that some clinical tests have shown better results. In addition, it was noted that there were no episodes of asthmatic respiratory crises, which represents a relief in the delicate state of health of the Holy Father.
"The Holy Father's clinical condition in critical condition is showing a slight improvement. Today there have been no episodes of asthmatic respiratory crises, some laboratory tests have improved," the official report detailed. Despite the favourable evolution, doctors remain cautious and have not yet issued a definitive prognosis.
Likewise, monitoring of renal failure remains of no concern. “Monitoring of mild renal failure is not worrying. Oxygen therapy continues, although with a slightly reduced flow and percentage of oxygen,” they specified in a document.
Meanwhile, thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square to pray for his recovery. The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge García Cuerva, led a mass in the parish of Constitución to pray for the Pope's health.
Finally, the Vatican reported that Francis "thanks all the people of God who have joined together in these days to pray for his health." During the morning, the Pope received the Eucharist and, in the afternoon, he resumed some of his work activities. According to sources from the Holy See, the Pope worked this Monday from his room at the Gemelli Hospital, signing documents and making calls.
