Pilot performs emergency maneuver and avoids crashing into jet (VIDEO)
WASHINGTON.- A Boeing 737-800 of the American airline Southwest narrowly avoided a collision on the runway with a private jet at an airport in Chicago (Illinois) on Tuesday.
The incident was recorded on video and is going viral on social media.
The images show Southwest Flight 2504 , which was flying from Omaha, Nebraska, to Midway Airport in Chicago, preparing to land and then taking off again - known as a missed approach manoeuvre - seconds before touching down to avoid colliding with a private jet that was taxiing crosswise on the runway a few metres ahead.
Representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) quoted by ABC said that the private jet did not correctly follow the instructions of air traffic control, as it had been instructed not to cross the runway until after the Boeing had landed.
A tragedy was averted. A Southwest Airlines plane nearly collided with a private jet on the runway at Chicago's Midway International Airport.
