The two CTAs rejected the appointments of Lijo and García-Mansilla and warned of an “authoritarian tendency”

The two CTAs rejected the appointment by decree of Ariel Lijo and Manuel García-Mansilla to the Supreme Court and accused the Government of acting with "arrogance" and without respecting institutions. Both organizations warned of a "new degradation of democratic coexistence" and pointed out that the measure seeks to "guarantee impunity" in the context of the cryptogate scandal.
In a joint statement, the CTA de los Trabajadores and the CTA Autónoma questioned the decision of President Javier Milei , stating that it "hides the real reasons why they were not ratified by the Senate." They also pointed out that Lijo received more than 30 objections and García-Mansilla another 20 , which, they indicated, calls into question their "suitability" to occupy the highest court in the country.

The unions denounced that the appointment by decree violates respect for the institutions of the Republic . "In another anti-democratic act and with complete arrogance, Milei decided to bypass Parliament and insist with these judges," they said. Along these lines, they described the president's position as "a worrying authoritarian tendency" and accused him of "permanently attacking the National Constitution and the rights of the people."
Opposition members also voiced their opposition to the measure. Various leaders considered that the appointments by decree represent an assault on Congress and affect the separation of powers. Some sectors are even considering taking the case to court to stop the government's maneuver.
The unions warned that Milei 's policy seeks to "concentrate absolute power in the nation" and pointed out that the appointments of Lijo and García-Mansilla could have implications in future judicial cases that are sensitive to the current administration. "It is clear that this is a maneuver to guarantee the impunity of Milei and his closest circle," they said.
Finally, they called on society to "defend democracy and institutions." In this regard, they stressed that the Executive Branch "should promote and respect" democratic coexistence, but instead is deepening a "climate of permanent confrontation."
