The young Brazilian woman who was trapped in a volcano in Indonesia for three days has died.

The young Brazilian woman who was trapped in a volcano in Indonesia for three days has died.

After several rescue attempts by authorities over a three-day period, Juliana Marins , the 26-year-old Brazilian woman who had fallen into a volcano in Indonesia while on a difficult hike on the geological structure, was found dead. Her family confirmed the news on social media.

On Monday morning, rescue teams had managed to locate her using a drone . The young woman was trapped on a rocky cliff, about 500 meters deep, on the slopes of Rinjani , the second highest volcano in the country.

“Today, a rescue team managed to reach the location where Juliana Marins was found. It is with deep sadness that we report that she did not survive. We remain deeply grateful for all the prayers, messages of love, and support we have received,” read a brief statement posted on the @resgatejulianamarins account, managed by the family of the young woman from Rio de Janeiro .

Marins was with six other tourists assisted by two guides, according to Gunung Rinjani National Park authorities. Her family said the guides abandoned her for more than an hour before the accident , Brazilian outlet G1 reported.

“Juliana was in the group, but she got very tired and asked to stop for a while. They continued on, and the guide didn't join her,” said her sister, Mariana, adding that it was during this time that the fall occurred. “I didn't know where to go, I didn't know what to do. When the guide returned, seeing that she was taking too long, he saw that she had fallen,” she insisted.

However, 20-year-old guide Ali Musthofa claimed he was only “three minutes” ahead of Juliana and that he went back to look for her. “I didn’t leave her, but I waited three minutes in front of her. After about 15 or 30 minutes, she didn’t appear. I looked for her at the final resting place, but I couldn’t find her. I told her I would wait for her further ahead. I told her to rest. I realized [she had fallen] when I saw the light of a flashlight in a ravine about 150 meters deep and heard Juliana’s voice calling for help. I told her I would help her. I desperately tried to tell her to wait for help,” he told O Globo.

Alerted to the young woman's disappearance, Indonesian authorities mobilized two teams of experts to reach the victim's location and check the second anchor point, at a depth of approximately 350 meters. However, after examining the site, rescuers found two overhangs that prevented the anchor from being installed on Monday.

The specialists had to begin ascending to try to reach it. During the process, they faced extreme terrain and changing weather conditions, including dense fog . These conditions reduced visibility at the site and increased the risk of the operation, according to authorities. For safety reasons, the team withdrew and headed to a safer position.
