Actress Marcela Mar will play the revolutionary Antioquian painter Débora Arango in a new film.

Actress Marcela Mar will play the revolutionary Antioquian painter Débora Arango in a new film.
Débora is the title of the upcoming film inspired by the life of the revolutionary Antioquian artist Débora Arango; and actress Marcela Mar has just been confirmed as its lead.
The feature film, which is in pre-production, will feature a script written by Will Nunziata ('The Old Guitarist', 'Lillith') and will narrate the details of the painter who challenged the conservative society of Antioquia in the first half of the 20th century with her provocative art, becoming one of the most daring female voices in modern art in Latin America.
The film, produced by Yaakov Gottlieb (La Casa del Migrante, Fighting Back) and 23 Productions, will delve into the artist's rebellion against patriarchy, censorship, and religious dogma, set against a politically turbulent Medellín backdrop.
"I was drawn to Débora Arango 's story because it is a timeless portrait of resilience, truth, and artistic courage. Her paintings weren't just art, they were acts of rebellion. By telling her story, I hope to remind audiences around the world that a voice, especially when silenced, can resonate for generations," said screenwriter Will Nunziata in a statement shared by the production company.
