Colmenar Viejo presents its fair as a tribute to Yiyo on the 40th anniversary of his death.

Colmenar Viejo presents its fair as a tribute to Yiyo on the 40th anniversary of his death.

The lobby of the Villa de Colmenar Viejo auditorium hosted the presentation of the posters for the upcoming Virgen de los Remedios Bullfighting Fair 2025 this Thursday afternoon, which will take place in this Madrid town from Saturday, August 30th to Wednesday, September 3rd.

This is a complete and attractive cycle, consisting of three bullfights and two bullfights , one of them without picadors, in which the leading figures of bullfighting are interspersed with several of the season's newcomers and the most promising bullfighters.

The event, hosted by Onda Madrid journalist and director of 'Buenos días Madrid', Javier Fernández Mardomingo, featured speakers including Carlos Blázquez, mayor of Colmenar Viejo; Felipe Mansilla, the municipality's Councilor for Bullfighting Affairs; and Carlos Zúñiga, entrepreneur from La Corredera.

Both the Councilor for Bullfighting, Felipe Mansilla, and the Mayor, Carlos Blázquez, highlighted the council's commitment to bullfighting while thanking the entrepreneur for his great efforts with the discount on sun passes.

The mayor based his speech on the council's unconditional support for bullfighting: "We have a department for bullfighting affairs because this spectacle is highly important in this municipality. That's why we also continue to fight for our talent with the horseless bullfight and the agreement with the Miguel Cancela Bullfighting School." Felipe Mansilla, for his part, thanked the entrepreneur for his efforts in bringing both top figures and emerging bullfighters to Colmenar Viejo, "and for always taking into account local bullfighters and ranches to make room for them on the season ticket."

Finally, businessman Carlos Zúñiga wanted to thank the City Council "for once again supporting the company in this new contract, and above all, Morante de la Puebla, who has taken another step forward in his historic career by returning to Colmenar. I think it adds spectacular value to the season."

The entrepreneur also wanted to emphasize the different breeds that are concentrated in the program, as well as the presence of exquisite bullfighters such as Manzanares and Juan Ortega, and a poster with a lot of big doors in Las Ventas that include Ventura, Emilio de Justo and Borja Jiménez, and a trio of specialists in the Santa Coloma breed, such as Morenito and Ferrera along with last year's winner.

There was no shortage of reference to Yiyo on the fortieth anniversary of his death in this arena: "For all bullfighting lovers and all professionals, his mark remains very much alive, and so does his legacy. That's why we decided to have his figure grace the poster for this fair."

The posters have been left as follows:

- Saturday, August 30 : Rehuelga bulls for Antonio Ferrera, Morenito de Aranda and Miguel de Pablo.

- Sunday, August 31 : Brazuelas bulls for David López, El Mene and Julio Méndez.

- Monday, September 1 : Two bulls from Guiomar Cortés de Moura for bullfighting on horseback and four from Guadaira for bullfighter Diego Ventura and matadors Emilio de Justo and Borja Jiménez.

- Tuesday, September 2 : Bulls from Conde de Mayalde for Morante de la Puebla, José María Manzanares and Juan Ortega.

- Wednesday, September 3 : Heifers from El Álamo for Rodrigo Cobo, Juan Pablo Ibarra and Marco Peláez.
