How much money will a bullfighter earn per bullfight in Spain in 2025: salaries by category

Like any professional sector, the bullfighting industry also has a collective bargaining agreement published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). Although the amounts may be higher depending on the professional's prestige or recognition , this document—signed on December 16, 2022, and in force until December 31, 2025—sets out minimum amounts that bullfighters, novilleros, rejoneadores (bullfighters on horseback), subaltern bullfighters, comic bullfighters, assistants, and other professionals must receive.
In addition, the salary tables published in the Official State Gazette of February 27, 2025, have been updated in 2025.
These salary tables, published in 2025, show the salaries of these professionals in bullrings in Spain, France, and Portugal . The minimum salaries—which can be increased depending on the contracts signed—of matadors also vary depending on the number of bulls participating in the bullfight and the category of the bullring.
Group A bullfighters will be included if they have performed at least 37 times in bullfights in the previous season, including those held in Spain, France, and Portugal.
Group B is made up of matadors who have performed at least 13 and 36 bullfights in the previous season, while Group C is made up of the remaining matadors.
According to the salary tables published in 2025, these are the salaries contemplated. In a bullfight with six bulls, a bullfighter in Group A could earn €19,359 in fees , €29,743 for the crew, and €17,742 in general expenses.
On the other hand, a Group A bullfighter who fights in a fourth-category bullring will earn €8,278 in fees, €25,237 for the bullfighting team, and general expenses of €16,875.

Bullfighters on horseback, those who excel in bullfights, and bullfighters are also classified by professional groups and have salary tables that match their duties .
As noted, depending on the category of the bullring—defined by tradition, number, and type of events held—the fees charged may be higher. The bullfighter also plays a role, as top-level figures may have their own fees.
According to the agreement, the first-category plazas are those of Madrid, Seville, Córdoba, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza, Bilbao, San Sebastián, Pamplona, and Málaga. Second-category plazas are all provincial capitals that are not part of the first group, plus Vista Alegre (Madrid), Colmenar Viejo (Madrid), Aranjuez (Madrid), Gijón, Algeciras (Cádiz), Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), Linares (Jaén), Plasencia (Cáceres), Mérida (Badajoz), Cartagena (Murcia), and Olivenza (Badajoz).
Third category are those not included in the previous two and fourth category are those portable but not fixed.
