Margot Robbie, 'Barbie', returns to Hollywood

Margot Robbie, 'Barbie', returns to Hollywood
“Everyone's probably sick of seeing me... I should just disappear from the screens for a while.” It's been almost a year and a half since Margot Robbie uttered those words, joking in an interview with Deadline. However, between jokes and jokes, the truth emerges… And the truth is, after the success of Barbie, the actress took a break. And now she's back, blowing out her 35 birthday candles with a very promising return to the cinema.
Margot Elise Robbie was born in Dalby, Queensland, Australia, on July 2, 1990. The daughter of Sarie Kessler, a physiotherapist, and Doug Robbie, a farmer. Robbie abandoned Sarie and their four children, including Margot, shortly after her birth.
So, Sarie had to raise her family alone in a rural setting, and Margot worked several jobs, sometimes simultaneously, to help out at home from her teens. But at 17, she moved to Melbourne to pursue a career.
“I grew up in a very noisy and busy house, so I feel comfortable and safe when chaos reigns. I think that's why I love film sets,” she said, recalling her childhood in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Although he had already appeared in some small roles, his first relevant work was in the series Neighbors, where he was from 2008 to 2011. This was followed by Pan Am, from 2011 to 2012. But the role with which Robbie rose to international fame came with The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), directed by Martin Scorsese.

“Something was happening in those early days, and it was all pretty horrible. I remember saying to my mom, 'I don't know if I want to do this for a living.' And she looked at me, unfazed, and said, 'Honey, I think it's too late not to do it,'” he recalled, referring to the magnitude of that success.
Then, she realized that “the only way forward was to keep going.” And keep going she did, with films like Suicide Squad (2016), I, Tonya (2017), Mary Queen of Scots (2018), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), Bombshell (2019), Birds of Prey (2020), Babylon (2022), and, of course, Barbie (2023).
Robbie is also the co-founder of the production company LuckyChap Entertainment , responsible for projects like Promising Young Woman and Barbie. And she wants to explore more: “I've had the urge to direct for at least seven years… But I've always seen it as a privilege, not a right, something I have to earn,” she told Deadline.
On a personal level, Margot Robbie's heart belongs to Tom Ackerley, the British producer she met on the set of Suite Française (2014) and with whom she works on LuckyChap. The couple, very discreet about their relationship, married in 2016.
In July 2024, Margot was spotted showing off her first baby bump in Italy with Ackerley: “They've kept it a secret for a while, but are happy the news is out,” a source close to the couple revealed to People, explaining that “family is very important to them; they knew they wanted to be parents from the start.”
Robbie gave birth in the fall of that same year, between October and November, and the couple was seen strolling around Los Angeles with their newborn, but they have not wanted to reveal the baby's name.
Now, in 2025, Margot returns to the cinema after her temporary retirement from Barbie, starring in the film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside Colin Farrell, directed by Kogonada and scheduled for release in September of this year.

“I think it's the longest break I've ever had between jobs. I thought I'd be more scared walking onto the set of Big Bold on the first day, but that wasn't the case,” she explained to Vanity Fair about this return to her profession, noting that “everything about this film felt immediately comfortable.”
In addition, the actress is filming the new adaptation of Emily Brontë's celebrated gothic novel, Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell, in which she will play the protagonist Catherine Earnshaw.
So, celebrating her 35th birthday, Margot Robbie is at the peak of her career and personal life, enjoying motherhood and her return to film with calm and comfort, but with many plans for the future.
For example, as explained in Deadline, plans to have her name appear in the credits of a film as a director: “I’m not in a rush, because I feel like I’ll never have enough time to learn everything I want to before taking that leap, but I definitely have that curiosity, and it’s getting stronger… I don’t know how much longer I can hold on.”
