Pedro x Javis, the party for Almodóvar by Calvo and Ambrossi: lots of power, little information

Pedro x Javis, the party for Almodóvar by Calvo and Ambrossi: lots of power, little information

The musical numbers from Pedro x Javis have already been revealed, so it's not a spoiler to talk about them. They couldn't be more exciting, especially if Pedro Almodóvar 's films are part of your emotional education. I'm not a particularly musical person, but I'm not made of stone either : Amaia fascinates me, and Luz Casal singing that song always moves me. These musical moments are extraordinary. Because of who sings, what they sing, and how the performances are recorded: Nathy Peluso has unique guest stars, Amaia, an exceptional spectator... We won't see Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi covering Gran Ganga in any of the three episodes of their documentary series for Movistar Plus+. Sorry for the spoiler.

Pedro Almodóvar himself doesn't pick up the microphone, gown, and eyeshadow again to recreate Suck It to Me or Satana Inc. He's long since surpassed even his own career. And the Javis know it. Pedro x Javis is driven more by admiration than by a thirst for knowledge. Don't expect any big revelations from the series , but it does offer some audiovisual moments capable of competing in power with those of the honoree's films. I was only surprised "informationally" at one point: when the director names his two least favorite films. The two worst, in other words. But it seems to me that's not new either; perhaps it slipped my mind in a previous interview. Although I doubt it, because I read and listen to Pedro Almodóvar whenever I get the chance. Sometimes I like his films more and other times less. I'm always interested, that's true. And his interviews too. I'm already considering it a lost battle to vindicate his work above likes or dislikes : Pedro Almodóvar is one of the most important creators in the history of Spain, period. It's not something we can have an opinion on. It's just the way it is.

Pedro x Javis is organized thematically. Each episode has a common thread... which is joyfully contaminated frequently. Because what need does anyone have to Cartesianly reorder one of the most unique visual and narrative imaginaries in cinema? In Pedro x Javis we see Eva Siva and Tilda Swinton, Francesca Neri and Victoria Abril , Antonio Banderas in Labyrinth of Passions and Antonio Banderas today, transformed into an international superstar.

The friendship segment of the series shows Loles, Rossy, and Bibiana arriving at the Movistar Plus+ building. If you need their last names, I don't understand what you're doing reading this. They're as secondary in Pedro's films as they are essential to understanding his world. And my world.

For some (for me), Almodóvar is a constant presence, a cultural father, an altar. And I'm not just talking about persistently resorting to lines from his scripts to express things I can't say any other way at this point. If I had to pay every time I say " she's so wrong, but she's so funny, " I'd be ruined right now.

The Javis don't usually make mistakes. Nor do they hesitate to wield the enormous power they've accumulated in a relatively short time. The fact that they're the ones giving Pedro Almodóvar the tribute documentary he deserves indicates the extent to which they recognize and respect each other . Pedro x Javis , created by Calvo and Ambrossi and written by Paloma Rando and Brays Efe , is a demonstration of power. It's also a way of getting ahead of the curve, as is almost always the case, when the Americans or the French come along to underline the obvious: that Pedro Almodóvar is a genius and a treasure.
