Mexico issues alert regarding the sale and use of Colgate Total Clean Mint cream; manufacturer has 30 days to recall it.

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) issued a health alert for Colgate Total Prevention Active Clean Mint toothpaste , after receiving reports of adverse effects in users who had used it.
"As part of our responsibilities, we have decided to act under the precautionary principle to protect the health of the population," the health authority said in an August 6 statement.

Cofepris also reported the symptoms that have been reported in the registered cases:
- Oral irritation.
- Inflammation of the gums.
- Pain.
- Dental sensitivity.
- Appearance of ulcers.
- Canker sores or boils.
- Allergic reactions related to the components of the product.
Cofepris granted the manufacturer a 30-day period for the product to be removed from retail outlets and recommended immediate suspension of its use.
" Anyone who has used this toothpaste should consult a healthcare professional and report any symptoms through our official portal," the institution stated.

Likewise, it asked those who have the Active Prevention Clean Mint presentation in their possession to contact the company to arrange for its return, keeping in mind that "the measure is limited exclusively to this version and does not affect other Colgate presentations."
Cofepris assured that it will continue health surveillance activities and "will release new information if it identifies additional evidence that may pose a risk to public health."
