This town in Malaga celebrates 'Raisin Day' with thousands of kilos of grapes to give away.

The Axarquía capital of Muscatel is finalizing its big event: ' Raisin Day ', a day that turns the Malaga town of El Borge into a showcase for the traditional Muscatel grape cycle, with a free distribution of one thousand kilos of grapes and raisins and 500 liters of wine . trade exhibitions and popular atmosphere.
The El Borge City Council explained that the main event will combine demonstrations of the process, from work in the vineyard to the raisin, with a general distribution to the public and a highlight of local traditions. The municipal forecast calls for a massive influx of 10,000 visitors , far exceeding the population of 984, with tourists from all over Andalusia and also from Holland , England, and Germany.
The City Council emphasized that the festival was created to recognize winegrowers and strengthen the promotion of a product that defines the area: El Borge claims to be the largest producer of Muscat raisins in Spain by surface area. At the same time, the City Council indicated that the event is organized and promoted by the institution itself, with the participation of the town's residents and the hospitality industry.
Among this year's new features, the organizers are reinforcing the role of the Vivo Interpretation Center, a municipal vineyard with a farmhouse where tours, tastings, and demonstrations of the craft are offered throughout the year. Ezequiel emphasized that everything shown on "Raisin Day" can be experienced throughout the rest of the year at these municipal facilities, with activities designed to spread the word about muscatel culture and boost the local economy.
El Borge is a whitewashed inland village, very close to the coast but deep enough in the Axarquía to preserve a landscape of hills and pedestrian walkways . Ezequiel Moya, a 34-year-old resident of the village and president of the El Pasero Association, emphasized precisely this dual nature: "Visitors always tell us that the best thing about the village is the tranquility it offers, being an inland municipality, yet its proximity to the coast."
Moya also highlights the " hospitality of the people of El Borge" as one of the charms that most attracts tourists. Although September is the month with the most visitors to the town, El Borge maintains a steady flow of tourists throughout the year, reaching up to 300 visitors on many weekends, a striking figure for the municipality's scale.

In addition to the festive season, visitors will discover a rich heritage : the Bandit Gallery, which the municipality presents as the largest collection of Romantic banditry in Spain; and the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, with an exceptional Mudejar coffered ceiling whose central ceiling is around 500 years old. The surrounding area invites hiking among vineyards and tropical crops, with views of the sea from the hills and panoramic views of the neighboring villages.
The gastronomy is also a draw: tapas with an Axarquía feel are available in many establishments, including the Posada del Bandolero, recognized with a Solete award. Rural accommodation completes the offering: the municipality has numerous rural houses , one of the main gateways for tourists seeking relaxation and scenery year-round.
'Raisin Day' reaffirms itself as El Borge's best calling card: a tribute to the vineyard and its people that, beyond the 1,000 kilos of grapes and raisins and 500 liters of wine distributed, invites you to discover a municipality that is small in census, 984 inhabitants, and large in heritage , landscape and food. If the forecast of 10,000 visitors is met, the Axarquía will once again demonstrate why its muscatel is much more than a crop: it is an identity , an economy and a reason to meet all year round.
