Algeria remains the most represented foreign nationality on French soil with 649,991 residence permits in force in 2024, a very slight increase compared to the previous year. In terms of first residence permits issued and renewals, Algeria still ranks second in the ranking, behind Morocco. However, Algerians are the most numerous to submit an application (11.2% of applications submitted between 2017 and 2022, well ahead of other nationalities).
