"An unprecedented event": giant puppets of wild animals from Africa will cross Paris

Life-size puppets of elephants, giraffes, lions, and chimpanzees perform to music in the streets of Saint-Ouen and Paris. This is "The Herds," a free show open to the public from Friday to Sunday. En route to the Arctic Circle, they represent the migration of life in the face of climate change.
By Sylvain MerleDeer and foxes, wild boars, peacocks or penguins, cougars again... We remember these images of wild animals in the streets of empty cities during the Covid crisis. With human activities neutralized, nature returned to its normalcy in a few days... The idea is similar, the cause different. Here, there are two giraffes and two elephants, lionesses and lions, zebras, wildebeests and antelopes, a few gorillas and chimpanzees moving along the asphalt with measured steps, sniffing the air in search of freshness, on the lookout for the slightest danger too...
Scared and lost, intrigued, sometimes amused by the numerous spectators who surround them, these are the animals of "The Herds", an artistic and climatic odyssey which stops in Saint-Ouen ( Seine-Saint-Denis ) and Paris on June 20, 21 and 22. These animals, nearly 70 of them, are life-size puppets made of cardboard, wood and recycled metal.
