29 works to discover in the heart of the city: in Toulon, look up, art is in the street

No need to go to a museum to feast your eyes. In Toulon, all you have to do is stroll through the city center. And look up. You may have walked down these streets dozens of times without noticing anything... Graffiti, collages, stencils, and even frescoes are all there. The idea behind this street art tour is to highlight them.
The genesis of the projectThe initiative is led by Jean-François Ruiz. The owner of the Galerie Lisa on Rue des Arts is a fan of street art. But not only that. "We wanted to follow up on the Banksy exhibition at the Musée d'Art . To participate in this event," he assures us.
The tour took nearly three months of work. "We first focused on cataloguing everything. The works are ephemeral, but they must still be part of a certain longevity." A guide has been published. "Our goal is to offer something fun, like a treasure hunt. And it works! The children in particular get into the game, checking off the works they find."
Works not to be missedThere are twenty-nine of them scattered throughout the city center. They come in all sizes and styles. "There are monumental frescoes that are several years old, as well as much more discreet stencils and paintings covering empty shop windows," says Jean-François Ruiz.
Among our favorites, we should mention the fresco in the Place des Savonnières . Designed by Makiko Furuichi, it measures 34 meters long and adorns the wall with lush colors. Also worth discovering is the group shot on Rue Pierre-Semard , with a little "piou-piou" by Daddy Twoer, the portraits of Noh and that of Sufyr.
Another well-hidden work of art: that of Ciyo, who produced a Perfect Crime . Between six and eight stencils were used to achieve this result. Admire it on Rue du Noyer.
The main artists to discoverWhile some prefer to remain anonymous, well-known local street artists are certainly visible—and sometimes very prolific.
This is the case for Sufyr . Although he lives in Le Cannet-des-Maures, Toulon is one of his favorite playgrounds. The man claims to be a disciple of Banksy. His trademark? Stylized and colorful portraits. There are also colors in Daddy Twoer. His specialty is a slightly punk bird. Straight out of a comic book or a cartoon. A collective has also endeavored to beautify Toulon with his creations: that of Les Mains Sales . We owe him, in particular, the Toulon metro in the tunnel under the station. He is also the one who attacked two windows of the Cours Lafayette (around numbers 76 and 85).
Street art is definitely here to stay and leave its mark on Toulon.
