A book to rediscover the RCT's European treble
2013, 2014, 2015: the golden age of Toulon rugby, forever etched in the memory of every good supporter. To relive these three European championship titles, Guilhem Herbert (in collaboration with the club) offers a 160-page book, mixing exclusive interviews, anecdotes and memorable memories. "It is without a doubt one of the biggest professional projects of my life. I am immensely proud of it."
The book, in which the iconic president Mourad Boudjellal is strangely overshadowed, is divided into four chapters (the three titles and the legacy in 2025). In the section entitled "The Affirmed Identity," present in each act, the rugby journalist looks back at the origin of the red and black jersey, the legendary Mayol stadium and the man who gave it its name, the supporters and their place within the club, as well as the creation of the RCT Campus, at the end of the book.
"What I like about books is that there is this physical connection: it's an object that supporters will grab hold of, and which crosses the ages. It leaves a mark , says Guilhem Herbert . Now, I hope that I will have feedback from supporters who will say to me: ' Thank you, you made me relive that moment ,' that would be great."
“Insides, anecdotes, behind the scenes… that’s the added value of a book.”"I'm not a supporter of the RCT, and I think that's a strength, because I've been able to detach myself from the emotional aspect," explains the Landais native.
And yet, his first reaction was to feel insecure in the eyes of the fans or local journalists, particularly the fear of forgetting certain elements. But the opportunity was far too good to pass up. "As a journalist, interviewing Jonny Wilkinson, talking to this man... It's incredible. The first argument for the project, for me, was that," confides this rugby enthusiast. "Then finding yourself in the coaches' office talking with Sergio Parisse (line-up coach) and Andrea Masi (backs coach), it's incredible! The special moments it gives you, as a rugby fan, are priceless. All these inside stories, these anecdotes and these behind-the-scenes stories, that's for me the real added value of a book." To devour... without moderation!
