Already 40,000 visitors: in Hyères, the Andy Warhol exhibition broke the bank

February 8 - June 8. In just four months, the Andy Warhol exhibition attracted 40,000 visitors to the Museum of Cultures and Landscapes in Hyères.

A figure that marks a new record for the Bank converted into a museum, since the town hall, which keeps the accounts, announces 40,000 visits; this is generally the total recorded over a full year.

After Miro (30,000 visitors) and Man Ray (18,000 visitors), the American has set the bar very high.

This Sunday evening, the mayor and museum officials took a final look at the paintings before they left Hyères.

An emotional moment in the company of Milan Majersky, the president of the Prešov region (Slovakia). Expected this Monday in Nice to sign a regional cooperation agreement with Renaud Muselier, the man who is presented as the main opponent of the current regime, made a detour for the occasion and was guided through the museum's rooms by Jean-Pierre Colin, the regional vice-president in charge of cooperation.

Of the 71 works on display in Hyères, 68 belong to the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Medzilaborce. In this small town, where the artist's parents were from, his brother had a museum dedicated to his work built in the early 1990s.

Under construction this spring, he had chosen to send part of his collection to the city of palm trees. An initiative made possible by the new cultural collaboration between the Southern Region, the exhibition's partner, and its Polish and Ukrainian counterparts.

The project is not yet completely finished, but Medzilaborce is waiting for the colorful paintings of his most famous child to return to the country... even though he never set foot there and, despite being born and raised in Pittsburgh, claimed to have "come from nowhere."

In addition to the 68 works from the Medzilaborce Museum, 3 pieces came on loan from the Carmignac Foundation.

Make way for Raoul Dufy

The downtime at the museum will be short-lived. Starting July 18, La Banque is hosting an exhibition dedicated to Raoul Dufy and, more specifically, to his relationship with fashion. The program includes drawings, as well as silks, dresses, and stage costumes.
