Pines of Rome, Romeo and Juliet, Beethoven... The program for the week of the Philharmonic at the Prince's Palace of Monaco

After its magnificent escapade last Sunday at the Grimaldi Forum, for the success of Paul McCartney's "Liverpool Oratorio" - a swell of music, choirs, rhythms and emotions - the Philharmonic returns to the Palace this week.
He returns to his concerts in the majestic setting of the Cour d'honneur, surrounded by polychrome galleries and blue shadows. The conductors of the two concerts on Thursday, July 31 and Sunday, August 3 will attract attention with their personalities and age gaps.
The first, Thursday, July 31, of almost legendary stature, began his career more than sixty years ago. He is undoubtedly the oldest member of the profession. He is Charles Dutoit. It is a stroke of luck for the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic to have him regularly at its podium and to achieve considerable success each time.
The second chef—or rather, the second, since she's a woman—belongs to the new generation. Tanyi Lu was born in Shanghai, China. She emigrated to New Zealand and began her career less than ten years ago.
She gained recognition in 2020 when she won the Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in Frankfurt, Germany.
On Thursday, July 31, the first conductor, Charles Dutoit, will conduct Respighi's "Pins de Rome," a symphonic poem rich in color, fanfares, sounds of dawn and dusk, distant bells, and birdsong.
Tianyi Lu will make the orchestra vibrate on Sunday, August 3, in excerpts from the breathless, quivering music from Prokofiev's ballet "Romeo and Juliet."
Concertos will also be on the program: Thursday, August 31, Beethoven's first concerto, full of grace and classicism, entrusted to the great French pianist David Fray, whose clear and dreamy playing is well known.
On Sunday, August 3rd, the powerful and romantic 4th concerto by the same Beethoven will be performed by Latvian pianist Andrejs Osokins, winner of the major international competitions: Arthur Rubinstein in Tel Aviv, Long-Thibaud in Paris, and Queen Elisabeth in Brussels.
A great and beautiful musical week at the Prince's Palace!
