Rachida Dati loses her defamation case against Aurélie Filippetti
Rachida Dati is definitely racking up setbacks. First on June 26, with the rejection of her appeal against the indictment of the National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) demanding that she be tried for "passive corruption" and "passive influence peddling by a person holding a public elective mandate" in the investigation opened after the fall of the CEO of the Renault Nissan alliance, Carlos Ghosn. Then on June 30, with the veto at first reading by the National Assembly of the very divisive bill to reform public broadcasting .
Third snub, July 3: the Minister of Culture has just lost the defamation case she had filed in February 2024 against one of her predecessors, Aurélie Filippetti. Considering that "the act of hastily and recklessly attacking a person before a criminal court necessarily causes them harm and therefore justifies the allocation of damages to their benefit" , the Paris judicial court ordered Rachida Dati to pay the defendant 2,000 euros for abusive proceedings.
Queen of the clash, Rachida Dati doesn't just attack journalist Patrick Cohen in the middle of an interview or sue media outlets she dislikes, like Le Nouvel Obs and Libération – the latter has just won its first lawsuit against them. She also takes her political opponents to court. With varying degrees of success.
