Saint-Avold. Amateur Theater Festival: the MJC focuses on humor

For the third consecutive year, the MJC of Saint-Avold is bringing amateur theater troupes, in the noblest sense of the term, to the forefront of its stage at the Espace Chapelle. Five performances are scheduled from May 14 to 17, with a common theme: comedy.

What is the DNA of this festival dedicated to amateur theatre?

Paul Chaya, director of the MJC and Muriel Rodermann, from the culture and communication commission : "This is an amateur theater festival in which we have decided to highlight local troupes exclusively. This year, moreover, we have not gone beyond the borders of Marienthal (Bas-Rhin). Giving visibility to non-professional companies is exactly in line with the role of the MJC of Saint-Avold , which seeks to promote culture for all , regardless of their social category. This festival is very important in the life of the MJC and we are proud to give visibility to artists, often real gems, who work very hard. Professionals do not need our stage to express themselves."

The other specificity of the festival is its comic dimension...

“Yes, only comedies are featured in the program . Experience shows that this is what people expect: today, they want lightness. The audience wants to laugh in the theater, to have fun. And it works! In two years (the festival was launched in 2023, editor's note), we have managed to build loyalty among spectators that we hope to see again for this third edition!”

This year again, the festival has a solidarity dimension...

"We do believe that combining culture, health and solidarity is very important. On Friday, May 16 at 8 p.m., the Osons le théâtre company, and its show Au 4 rue Saint-Blaise , will perform to benefit the Entr'aide Cancer association, based in Valmont, which supports people affected by the disease. The ticket price is for two shows. At the end of the performance, two actors from the Nabor company Théâtre du Quipropos will continue with Dissonance sur un niveau ."

We hope to reach people who aren't used to going to the theater. Even those who think it's not for them.

Paul Chaya and Muriel Rodermann.

A word about the rest of the program?

"Five performances are planned over the four days of the festival. On Wednesday, May 14 (8 p.m.), Les Squatteurs du Préau, from the MJC in Marienthal, will open the ball with Especially for the Worst , a comedy that resembles a big farce, with lots of twists and turns. The next day, Thursday, May 15, we have programmed Panique au ministère , from the Prof théâtre company, a show that was unfortunately canceled last year. It's a look at National Education that's not exactly a joke! On Saturday, May 17, we will welcome Les Baladins du Warndt with the boulevard comedy La soeur du Grec , actors well established in Varsberg."
