Urban rodeo in Drancy: two people presented to the investigating judge for violence against police officers

Urban rodeo in Drancy: two people presented to the investigating judge for violence against police officers

The person arrested on Sunday is the one who "filmed the scene and insulted the police" and "has already been convicted of violence, rebellion and insult," said Eric Mathais, the public prosecutor of Seine-Saint-Denis, in a press release on Sunday evening.

In the investigation into the police officer's use of the firearm, which is being entrusted to the National Police Inspectorate (IGPN), the 19-year-old who was shot in the thigh and is still in hospital has not yet been questioned, the Bobigny prosecutor's office reported. Around 8:00 p.m. Friday evening, a police crew intervened on a street in the Drancy Avenir district to investigate an urban rodeo "filmed for use in a rap video," Eric Mathais reported in a first press release Saturday evening.

Warning shots

"Several individuals intervened between the police officers and the driver being stopped," described the prosecutor's representative. "In this context of violence, after using a taser and firing warning shots in the air, a police officer opened fire on a 19-year-old man, wounding him in the thigh. The officer was himself injured when he fell to the ground at the same time," the prosecutor explained.

A video circulating on social media and filmed near the Yuri Gagarin housing project in Drancy, a town of 70,000 people northeast of Paris, shows a violent altercation between two police officers and several people around a dirt bike that had fallen onto the road. One of the police officers, in possession of a firearm with which he fired warning shots, was pushed by a youth in a red sweater.
