Celiac Disease: Can Gluten Be Transmitted Through Kissing?

Below the authorized thresholds
To understand whether there was a real risk, the researchers recruited ten couples, each with a partner who had celiac disease. In the first step, the non-celiac partner ate ten saltine crackers containing gluten, then the couple kissed for ten seconds. In the second step, the partner drank a glass of water before the kiss.
The good news is that in both cases, the researchers found that gluten transfer, measured in saliva, was minimal in the majority of participants. In fact, the detected gluten level was always below 20 parts per million (ppm), the permitted limit for products labeled "gluten-free."
This study therefore reassures patients, but also all those suffering from gluten sensitivity.
