Meurthe-et-Moselle. Remote doctor, on-site nurse: Batilly opens its teleconsultation room

Meurthe-et-Moselle. Remote doctor, on-site nurse: Batilly opens its teleconsultation room

Batilly, which has been without a doctor for many years, has finally found an alternative: teleconsultation. Patients can now make appointments on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and be seen via video call by a local doctor, with a local nurse present to assist them.

The concept is beginning to gain traction in the Pays-Haut region. After opening the first assisted teleconsultation office in Piennes in 2022 , it is now Batilly's turn to welcome a dedicated room in the former La Poste premises at 8, avenue des Tilleuls. This project, completed in less than a year, responds to an urgent need for the town's residents.

“We used to have a doctor in Batilly, but he retired several years ago without finding a replacement,” explains Marie-Christine Riggi, mayor of the town. “When I arrived in 2020, we considered creating a health center , but it was impossible to find doctors.” Since then, residents have had to go to Sainte-Marie-aux-Chênes or Jarny to consult.

Faced with this situation, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) proposed opening a teleconsultation office. The municipality immediately seized the opportunity.

The room, officially opened on Tuesday, May 13, allows patients to consult Meurthe-et-Moselle doctors remotely, via videoconference , with the support of a nurse present on site. "That's the difference. Unlike other teleconsultations , these are supervised by a health professional who carries out the medical procedures and takes care of the administrative side," emphasizes the mayor. This is a significant advantage for patients who benefit from reassuring support. "The nurses know how to assess the degree of urgency, and are known to the residents, which can help them take the plunge."

Nathalie and Bénédicte, two independent nurses whose practice is located right next door, take turns providing these consultations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. At least initially. These hours may change depending on demand.

The project was made possible thanks to grants from the ARS (Regional Health Agency), which also provided the necessary equipment. "We use a portable medical kit, loaned by the CPTS [Territorial Professional Health Community, Editor's note] of Nancy, containing all the necessary tools (stethoscope, otoscope, etc.) connected to the computer," explain the two professionals. Patients can consult for various reasons: everyday ailments, medical follow-ups, prescription renewals, etc.

Office at 8 Avenue des Tilleuls, Batilly. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments required: call 06 30 49 32 25.
