Only child: debunking stereotypes

In 2017, a study conducted in China—a country with a high one-child policy—highlighted several aspects of the personality of children raised without siblings. The authors identified a different structuring of certain brain regions, such as the cortex. This appears to contribute to the development of greater "creativity" and "kindness" compared to their peers.
Winning and losing
Psychologist Valérie P. refuses to make generalizations about behavior and personality traits. She simply recommends enrolling children in daycare "to help them learn to share and interact with others in a setting other than school." And what about team sports? "Why not, but when it comes to activities, the most important thing is that they choose one they enjoy." One last point: at home, when you play with them, don't let them win just because they're a child and you love seeing their victorious face. "They also need to learn how to lose," she concludes.
