Boat Sinks: 87 Migrants Saved, One Woman Dies
There are 5, maybe 6, missing in the shipwreck that occurred during the night in the Tunisian-Maltese Sar area about 45 miles from the largest of the Pelagie islands. Many of the 87 surviving migrants told the Coast Guard that took them to Lampedusa . The military also brought the body of a lifeless woman to the island, which has already been taken to the mortuary of the Cala Pisana cemetery: she too was part of the same group of migrants, rescued by a Tunisian fishing boat and then taken to the island by a Coast Guard patrol boat.
Among the migrants who survived the shipwreck, who are being transferred to the hotspot in Contrada Imbriacola, there are 23 women and 10 minors. They said they left last night from La Louza, in Tunisia, on a metal boat of about 12 meters, paying from a thousand to 2 thousand dinars each. In the reception center, the police and the Red Cross will try, by interviewing the shipwrecked people, to get more information on the number of missing and people who lost their lives.
