Four teams tied at the top, 8 in 6 points: this is the most balanced championship ever

The name in this case does not lie. The Super League, this year, is truly super, at least from the point of view of unpredictability. With four teams at the top of the standings: Basel, Lugano, Lucerne and Servette, all at 42 points. Then Lausanne and Young Boys at 37, St. Gallen and Zurich at 36. Eight teams in six points: a balance without equal in Europe. Which ensures fun and spectacle at every match.
After 25 days, a situation like this has never been seen before. Not in the history of the Swiss championship, nor around other countries. At this point in the season, no leader has ever had so few points: the closest number is Basel's 48 in 2005. This year, however, balance reigns, so much so that eight of the twelve teams taking part in the tournament are in full battle for the title. And to think that in recent years there had been a dominance of Young Boys, winner in six of the last seven seasons: last year they finished with 77 points, +12 from second-placed Lugano.
Given the standings, it is impossible to make predictions. The best equipped team seemed to be Basel, led by former Inter player Shaqiri, with the best attack and defense in the league with a goal difference of +25. In the last three matchdays, however, two draws and a defeat have come, allowing the rivals to get back in touch. Servette, led by top scorer Kutesa, has taken advantage of this in particular, coming off three consecutive victories (the first against Basel).
Since 2023, the format has included a single round in which the teams play each other three times. After 33 matchdays, the standings are divided in two: the top six play for the title and qualifications for the European cups, while the others fight to avoid relegation. Five matches are added each, the results of which are added to the regular season: whoever has the most points at the end of the 38 matchdays celebrates the victory of the championship. This is why it is essential to finish in the top six: to date, St. Gallen and Zurich – despite being only six points behind the leaders – could not fight for the title. There are eight matchdays left to overtake and place where it counts: the spectacle is guaranteed.
