The quadruple sculls are here to impress: they've been missing gold for seven years.
World Championship gold has been missing since 2018, and the fantastic Italian quadruple sculls (Gentili, Panizza, Rambaldi, and Chiumento), the splendid performers of the silver medalist boat at the 2024 Paris Olympics (five medals in the last ten Olympics: two gold, two silver, and one bronze), will try to end their drought. The Italian team is approaching this event after the disappointment of finishing fourth at the European Championships. With the Dutch boat missing, the Italians are competing alongside Poland and Great Britain for a spot on the podium.
The other medal hopes for Technical Director Antonio Colamonici's national team lie in the men's doubles team of Gabriel Soares and Niels Torre. With the lightweight doubles sculls no longer available on the Olympic program, the two Italian rowers have stepped up their game by switching categories. And the initial results are encouraging—fourth place at the European Championships—so much so that they're vying for a spot in the finals at these World Championships. The race to the finals is more challenging for the men's coxless four and the men's and women's eights. Finally, there's great interest in the two new events that will close the finals program: the doubles sculls and the mixed eight. Especially in the latter, we can field a top-notch team: above all, the two members of the quadruple sculls, Panizza and Gentili.
