Tonali, Juve are making a move: Newcastle have offered Vlahovic. Details of the deal.

Tonali, Juve are making a move: Newcastle have offered Vlahovic. Details of the deal.

Some dreams last less than a summer, others never end. Sandro Tonali is Juventus's mission impossible, a player the Bianconeri have long coveted, but they know there's very little chance of him landing in Turin. But in the transfer market, nothing is impossible, and what seems impossible on paper can become reality in the blink of an eye. They know this well at Continassa, where seven years ago they witnessed the most fantastic signing in the club's history, Cristiano Ronaldo, and for this reason, they've never stopped dreaming (and hoping). All it takes is a small spark of hope to rekindle desire, and right now, all hope is tied to Dusan Vlahovic: the Serbian, on his way out of Juventus, could be the one to bring a glimmer of hope. At least, that's what Juventus hopes, as they aim to close a deal for their number 9 and then make a move for the Azzurri midfielder.

"We need someone like Tonali" has been the refrain circulating at Juventus since this spring, even before the corporate shakeup. After last summer's flop in midfield (read: Douglas Luiz, another player who could end up in the mix), Juventus has convinced itself they need a top player to get back to the top. And that top player wears the number 8 on his back and a black-and-white striped shirt, but it's Newcastle's, not Juventus's. From Igor Tudor to Giorgio Chiellini, via Damien Comolli, everyone agrees he's the right man to solve the midfield problems of the club. The hard part is convincing the English club, who first paid dearly for him (€65 million plus bonuses), then waited for him (a 10-month ban due to a betting ban in 2024), and now are enjoying him, after winning last season's League Cup and already anticipating participation in next season's Champions League. Tonali is unsellable for Newcastle, and he's happy in England, but Serie A is always a major draw for an Italian. Juventus will try to tempt both players by playing with Vlahovic and banking on the English club's need to sign a striker.

Newcastle are about to sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool, and the initial plan was to replace him with either Benjamin Sesko or Darwin Nunez. However, the former is very close to joining United, while Simone Inzaghi's Al Hilal have a strong advantage over the latter. Thus, the Magpies risk being left empty-handed, and are currently evaluating Vlahovic, who was offered to the club again in the last few hours by the usual intermediaries. If the long-awaited deal were to materialize, then Juventus management could try to sign Tonali: not a swap deal, but a more complex operation, which could also include one of Douglas Luiz or Nicolò Savona, with a potential financial adjustment in favor of the English club, as the valuations of the players involved are not comparable.

Tonali is worth more, obviously, but Juventus would be willing to make a financial sacrifice to land what they consider to be the best player, someone who doesn't have a double. The former AC Milan player is technically and physically gifted, and would quickly fix both the attacking and defensive phases and bring a quantum leap to the Old Lady's midfield. For now, however, he remains a dream, which is why Juventus is moving on multiple fronts simultaneously. Among the remaining candidates are Yves Bissouma, on his way out of Tottenham, Dane Morten Hjulmand of Sporting (€60 million release clause), Matt O'Riley of Brighton, former AC Milan player Franck Kessie, now in Saudi Arabia, and Sofyan Amrabat of Fenerbahçe. Roma's Bryan Cristante is also being considered, a possibility linked to a possible swap deal with Weston McKennie.
