UN warns: Era of 'dictators' could return
Geneva, Feb. 24 (askanews) - "Dictators could order atrocious crimes, condemning large numbers of people to death, be careful: it can happen again." This was stated by Volker Turk, UN Commissioner for Human Rights, from Geneva, where the general assembly was held.
"The global consensus on human rights is crumbling under the weight of authoritarians, strongmen and oligarchs," he explained. According to some estimates, autocrats now control about a third of the world's economy, more than double what they did 30 years ago.
