This film deals with a very well-known and controversial crime story in Italy, which is still capable today, ten years after the events, of having a strong impact on public opinion.
A thirteen-year-old girl, Yara Gambirasio, was kidnapped in 2010 in a town in the Bergamo hinterland and, after three months of frantic and fruitless searches, was found dead in a dirt road not far from the place where she was last seen.
A bit like a stone thrown into water that spreads concentric circles, our film aims to tell not only the story of the investigation conducted with great determination by Public Prosecutor Letizia Ruggeri but also the complex reactions that the story provoked in the country.
The case in fact created divisions among investigators and fierce political controversy, unleashing morbid media attention. At the same time, the investigation methods followed – especially the extensive search for the killer's DNA found on Yara's body – had a strong resonance also because for the first time not only the usual suspects but the entire community were involved.
At the center of the story will be the exhausting work of Letizia , who remained at the helm of the investigation even when the higher hierarchies wanted to replace her. A single woman, also the mother of a little girl, who never stops working because she knows that the more time passes the more difficult it will be to find the culprit.
The film will seek the maximum identification of the viewer with Letizia, with Yara and with her parents. But it will have to press the viewer with the feverish rhythm of investigations, hypotheses, reconstructions and, finally, the first concrete elements discovered thanks to scientific tests.
The contribution of the archive images (provided by the police themselves) will be fundamental, appropriately inserted into the story to give a sense of strong truth to the film: everything you are seeing really happened!
A suspenseful and at the same time psychological, interior and extroverted thriller, set in a suggestive and little-known area of Northern Italy, in its valleys crossed by streams, in villages full of artistic vestiges whose tradition can no longer protect from the poisons of the metropolis.
A film of great visual impact, where winter and snow play a role of contradictory amalgamation: on the one hand the candor of the landscape that hides and at the same time preserves everything, on the other the mysteries that are revealed when spring returns and the sun begins to shine again.
