At MArTA the art of weaving in the Greco-Roman world

"The Taranto Museum is constantly and constantly evolving, and even those who visited the MArTA just a year ago will find it different and increasingly accessible, as evidenced by the tactile and olfactory stations inaugurated just a few weeks ago and the new Temporary Art in the museum lobby. This is a natural continuation of the recently concluded exhibition dedicated to the figure of Penelope. The large entrance display showcases loom weights, bobbins, spindles, and kalathoi from our storage areas, which tell the story of the art of weaving in the Greco-Roman world." This was stated by Stella Falzone, director of the Taranto Archaeological Museum, in introducing the free Sunday initiative at the beginning of the month.
The MArTA will be open to visitors free of charge from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. as part of the national program promoted by the Ministry of Culture. Visitors will be able to admire the new display of the permanent collection and take advantage of guided tours or audio guides in five languages (Italian, English, French, German, and Spanish).
The Lex Municipio Tarentini, the bronze tablet of the law that established the Municipality of Taranto, can still be visited on the first floor of the museum. Its exhibition has been extended until December 28, 2025.
