“PAST/PRESENT. the history of the 1976 earthquake in the memory of the Friulian “ int ”” opened its doors today, Wednesday 30 April. The temporary exhibition hosted at Palazzo Orgnani Martina, in Venzone, home of the Tiere Motus Museum, is dedicated to the collective memory of the 1976 earthquake, a destructive event but also a moment that forever marked the identity and certified the resilience of a community.

Almost fifty years after that tragic night, “PAST/PRESENT. the story of the 1976 earthquake in the memory of the Friulian “ int ” presents itself as a touching journey that collects the testimonies of those who lived through those tragic days as well as the gaze of those born after , heirs to a history made of pain but also of a difficult, complex and extraordinary rebirth.

The exhibition offers a mosaic of voices, words and faces that retrace dramatic hours but at the same time emerge stubbornness and determination in the will to succeed. The protagonists of that time speak, today adults, who remember with lucidity and emotion the losses, the solidarity received, but above all the inner strength that allowed them to get back up.

The video interviews also offer a new perspective, a dialogue between the narrated memory and the awareness of a precious legacy. “ PAST/PRESENT ” is also an opportunity to reflect on the fragility of our territory and on how the memory of a traumatic event, which has shaped the identity of Friuli, can still be a lesson that continues to inspire a future of awareness of risks, prevention and solidarity.

This exhibition is the result of the project “ My '76 ”, curated by Tiere Motus, which constitutes a large archive of testimonies, memories and documents related to the events of that year and everything it represented. To accompany the testimonies, an installation with images of the earthquake-stricken Friuli in the courtyard of Palazzo Orgnani Martina, home of the museum: black and white photographs that convey the drama of our communities and a lexicon that evokes those moments. Each photograph and each word are fragments of a broader narrative, imbued with hope and a strong sense of belonging.

The exhibition will culminate on Saturday 10 May , with a visit together with some of the witnesses of the reconstruction, followed by a concert in the cloister of Palazzo Orgnani Martina with UT Gandhi , a son of this land, among the most renowned Italian percussionists and Patrizio Fariselli , former pianist of the historic group Area who returns to Venzone after the solo concert two years ago. A bridge between the past and the present and an invitation not to forget the scars, but to enhance and capitalize on the experience; an unmissable event for anyone who wants to understand the deep soul of this Region.

The exhibition “PAST/PRESENT. the history of the 1976 earthquake in the memory of the Friulian “ int ” is free to enter and can be visited every day until May 18, with the same hours as the museum, from 10 am to 6 pm.
