Yuko Mohri, art and its tangles. Umbrellas and pots come to life.

Until January 11, 2026, Pirelli HangarBicocca presents “Entanglements,” a solo exhibition by Yuko Mohri.
If you enjoyed the exhibition Pirelli HangarBicocca dedicated to the father of kinetic art, Jean Tinguely (Fribourg, 1925 – Bern, 1991), then you'll also enjoy this one, which opened a few days ago (and will remain open until January 11th), presenting " Entanglements ," a solo show by Japanese artist Yuko Mohri . She has always been interested in the transformative nature of everyday and organic elements, producing visual and sonic changes and bringing to the public's attention, through labile assemblages and interconnected systems, fundamental themes related to the environment and social coexistence, as global challenges for our society.
Known for her intricate and original assemblages, recently presented in Italy at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), within the Japan Pavilion, Yuko Mohri (b. Kanagawa, Japan, 1980; lives and works in Tokyo) creates site-specific kinetic sculptures that incorporate found and everyday objects, drawing on the experience of Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968), or musical instruments she reworked, which are connected to electronic circuits in response to imperceptible, transient, and ephemeral phenomena such as gravity, magnetism, heat, and humidity. These random and unstable environmental elements—specifically, air, dust, debris, and temperature—shape her compositions, turning them into organic ecosystems, within which sound plays a central role.
At Pirelli HangarBicocca, she exhibits works created from the mid-2000s to her most recent projects, continually updated and adapted to the spaces in which they are presented. The artist also possesses a sophisticated ability to make worlds often perceived as niche, such as experimental music and contemporary art, accessible by introducing familiar everyday and domestic elements such as kitchen utensils and dishwashing gloves, sometimes in a playful manner, with which the public can engage. The exhibition " Entanglements ," curated by Fiammetta Griccioli and Vicente Todolí, is Yuko Mohri 's largest solo exhibition ever held in Europe. The title, literally "entanglements," evokes the invisible connections and complex interactions that exist and subsist between objects, forces, sounds, and people. Free admission.
